STRUMMER began her recovery journey in 2004 and since has developed a meaningful understanding of the tools and practices most effective in maintaining sobriety and releasing patterns and behaviors that stand in the way of contentment and happiness. Strummer’s approach to recovery is one in which compassion, continuity, and accountability are key. In 2017, Strummer returned to New York after getting her Master’s degree at the world-renowned Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she received fellowships and was selected by faculty to teach several undergraduate writing courses. Strummer began working as a recovery coach that same year. She received certification through CCAR’s Recovery Coach Academy, which includes 500 hours of fieldwork. Her love of working one-on-one with others and many years in recovery have allowed Strummer has worked with clients using DBT and CBT modalities as well as those of 12 step programs. She has extensive experience with adolescents, which includes working with parents to establish boundaries, expectations, and consequences. Strummer’s clients have ranged in age from 14 to 65. Work with SUD, eating disorders, self-harm, dual-diagnosis and chronic illness. Strummer enjoys yoga, meditation, and trips to museums and dog parks across the city. In her free time, you can find her working on her manuscript of poetry and the development of a television pilot.
