Who we're looking for
SOHL companions and coaches come from all backgrounds — but they share a few things in common. They've usually been through their own recovery or have deep personal experience with mental health challenges. They know how to read a room. They build trust by showing up, not by following a script.
Certified in addiction recovery coaching (CARC, CCAR, or equivalent)
Background in mental health, social work, or related fields
Willingness to live with clients for extended engagements
Ability to work under clinical supervision and follow treatment plans
Strong communication skills — written and verbal
Personal recovery experience (preferred, not required)
What you get at SOHL
Unlike most companioning companies, SOHL is not a staffing agency. You don't get sent in alone with no supervision. Every companion works under daily clinical oversight from Dr. Almaguer, has a case manager coordinating the broader team, and has access to ongoing training and support.
